They learnt about the drums, West African culture and some language too. Everyone had a drum to play, learning about beat rhythm and timing. To be honest it would be hard to find anything that didn't go well, it was such a valuable experience for the children and really enriched our activities during Africa week." "Our Year 3 children were invited to take part in a five week drumming programme with Drumroots, who came into school weekly for one hour.  There was one drum for every child, so children weren't having to take turns during the lessons and were actively involved at all times. Some of the children in the group are working below the expected level of attainment in English and Maths, but they rapidly grasped drumming skills and were delighted with their own achievements. All the children looked forward to the sessions and it was wonderful to see them smiling and having fun. Comments were made from others around school regarding the children's ability and the wonderful sound of the rhythm of the drums. The programme ended with a whole school performance for children and parents. This was a fantastic opportunity for our children - where some hidden talents were discovered - we are now hoping Drumroots will run a weekly after school drumming club!"
