WORKSHOPS FOR EDUCATION

Drumroots delivers value for money drumming workshops for infant, primary and high school pupils. Our workshops are an innovative way to teach key areas of the curriculum, and can support themed events (Arts Week, Africa Day, Cultures of the World), offering pupils a chance to learn and have fun at the same time. Keeping their attention is never a problem!

The content and style of the workshop reflects on the age and ability of the pupils. Drumroots always provide 3 facilitators (enhanced CRB checked) to offer pupils something really special...their very own African band to learn and play with. We have experience of supporting pupils with special educational needs, including Aspergers and Autism, can deliver training for teachers, and are also available for after school drum clubs.

Teachers comments...

"Feedback was completely positive. Drumroots' impact on our learning day was very significant and felt through all the year groups, despite only being targeted towards Year 9.  Your staff were very professional, courteous and engaged pupils to an extent that it became a day for them to remember for a long time. Material was well prepared and appropriate to the level of the pupils' learning. There was a buzz about the school with the drummers' workshops and performances and it made for a very successful learning day in which pupils' knowledge of other cultures was enhanced greatly. We would certainly have Drumroots to do more workshops here when the occasion arises.  A big thank you to all your staff." Egerton Park Arts College

"The workshops were a great success and very much enjoyed by the students and staff alike. There was a great sense of concentration and focus, but also of fun. The tutors were approachable and humorous as well as being extremely knowledgeable. It was a really nice way to end the term and we look forward to finding other opportunities to work with Drumroots. Thanks again." Head of Music in the Curriculum, Chetham's School of Music

"Many thanks for providing the children with a fun filled and energetic day of drumming! The instructors were friendly and made it possible for every single child in school to experience the awesome sound produced by the djembe. The drumming day formed part of our African themed Wider World Week and was a huge hit (from Reception Class to Year 6) - pupils didn't stop talking about the workshops! To see faces light up with excitement was a moment to treasure. All the teachers were keen to get involved, even the local neighbours were impressed with the sounds that were being produced! We really were thrilled with the quality and content of the sessions and would highly recommend Drumroots to anyone." St Mary Magdalen Catholic Primary School

"Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic! Thank you so much."
Mills Hill Primary School

"Drumroots visited MOPS After School Club. The children loved it, the staff loved it.You were drawn into the beat, and the atmosphere of the session. All the children from the four year olds to the eleven year olds were captivated, which is very difficult after a day at school and the mixed ages of the audience. We would most certainly welcome Drumroots back to our club." Mobberly Primary School

"The workshops were fantastic, Drumroots worked so hard. All the pupils in school were involved and they all loved it. They were so  focused throughout the sessions all staff and pupils said how much they enjoyed the day. We will definitely book you again and are very  interested in the dance workshops also."  Melland High School

"Thank you for a most successful day. The sessions worked very well. with a good mixture of learning background and great fun drumming experience. The boys' sore hands indicated how hard they worked! Hope to see you next year." Altringham Grammer School for Boys

"The workshop was completely and absolutely wonderful and it had a fantastic impact on our children and families. All parents thought that it was a brilliant idea to try and we really want to do it again."

OJ's Sensory Trust (at Hillside Specialist School)

"Thank you very much for the session you did last week. The staff and I all thought it was fantastic.  We have had very positive feedback from the parents and children who would all love us to hold another session with you. We thought you did a really great job at adapting the session for the age group and needs of the children." Preston East Children's Centre

"Drumroots came to our school and offered us a magical session of African drumming. Each child had their very own djembe drum, learned about the history of the music and how to play it in different ways. I only wish we could have had them at school for longer - endless possibilities! Book them now."
St Mary's Church of England School

"I would like to say we had a fantastic day! The children thoroughly enjoyed watching, learning and performing with Drumroots.  Some aspects I thought worked particularly well were the performance in Assembly (the way you got the whole school involved in clapping and singing along), how you adapted to the abilities of the groups - the tasks were really well-matched  to the children's abilities, and how you organised it so that each class could perform a different piece at the end of the day.  I will definitely recommend Drumroots to other schools.

"The drumming was brilliant, everyone had a great time. Drumroots led the sessions well, accommodating all the children and they were sympathetic to the age range and skills of the children. They learnt about the drums, West African culture and some language too. Everyone had a drum to play, learning about beat rhythm and timing. To be honest it would be hard to find anything that didn't go well, it was such a valuable experience for the children and really enriched our activities during Africa week." Bolton by Bowland Primary School

"Our Year 3 children were invited to take part in a five week drumming programme with Drumroots, who came into school weekly for one hour.  There was one drum for every child, so children weren't having to take turns during the lessons and were actively involved at all times. Some of the children in the group are working below the expected level of attainment in English and Maths, but they rapidly grasped drumming skills and were delighted with their own achievements. All the children looked forward to the sessions and it was wonderful to see them smiling and having fun. Comments were made from others around school regarding the children's ability and the wonderful sound of the rhythm of the drums. The programme ended with a whole school performance for children and parents. This was a fantastic opportunity for our children - where some hidden talents were discovered - we are now hoping Drumroots will run a weekly after school drumming club!" Sacred Heart Catholic Infant School

"Drumroots workshops were excellent - the whole school was buzzing! The main facilitator was an excellent teacher and lead all the different age groups well. The support facilitators also had a great manner with the children. The team set up and cleared away quickly and efficiently both days and were fully prepared. The quality of the instruments was also good - even our less musical children felt good about the music they made. It was brilliant, just what I'd hoped for!"Dowson School

"I thought your lesson was wonderful and very cool. I loved your taste in music it's funky and vibrant. We all really enjoyed dancing to the rhythm of the drums. I have played those drums before and I love them to bits! I wish I had one at home so that I could play them all the time. The only thing I think could be better is letting me join you when I am older." Loughborough High School pupil (age 11).

"The children had a fantastic time in the drumming workshops as they could all participate. I had really good feedback from all other members of staff. We would certainly recommend to other schools." Fiddlers Lane Primary School
